Louis Daguerre

 Louis Daguerre

Louis Daguerre was a French artist and photographer, who was well known for his invention of the Daguerreotype process of photography. He created this process and used it to capture moments in life. The Daguerreotype process of photography was a one-of-a-kind image on a highly polished, silver plated sheet of copper. After this creation, Louis Daguerre was considered the father of photography by many.

Robert Capa

Robert Capa

Robert Capa was a Hungarian/American war photographer in the 1930s. He was also a photojournalist, as well as the companion and professional photography partner of another photographer called Gerda Taro. His photography was based on the moments he had captured with his camera in the war. Many of his images included grim subjects, and the reality of war itself. He focused on bringing out everything a war photograph had to say, and he believed that "If your pictures aren't good enough, then you aren't close enough." Unfortunately, he was killed during an assignment on the French Indochina War by a land mine. His death brought to light how dangerous his war photography job really was. Robert Capa always risked his life when capturing the moments in war.

Shigeru Onishi

Shigeru Onishi - The Possibility Of Existence

Shigeru Onishi created a series of images that focus on time andspace. He ignored all rules of the darkroom and "painted"photographic emulsion onto the photo paper with a paint brush, making the state of the images development deliberately obscure. Onishi often used unusual printing methods like this to create abstract images. His work was believed to be seen as an "act" and an expression, rather than a document of work. Shortly after creaing this series of immages, Onishi decided to move on to abstract ink painting. You can see how some of his work interlinks with ink painting.

Scans

Experiments with different effects with a scanner -

First, I started off by printing out one of my edited images and then creating creases (by folding the paper) in the image before scanning it back into photoshop.

Next, I torn the image into sections before scanning it back into photoshop again.

I then edited the image on photoshop by changing the saturation and brightness levels.

After this, I printed out the image and created more rips, then scanned it back into photoshop.

Finally, I added some colour to the torn sections of the image to make it look more abstract.
